Electric Mopeds for Delivery Riders in London | Ride Today
For working riders

Choose around your shift—not just the headline range

If you use a moped for food delivery, you need a setup that fits your shift and gives you clear answers about insurance, servicing and support. Food delivery is insured through our setup. We work with all insurance parties, and riders with a CBT and a valid licence for the selected vehicle can be insured. We check your documents and go through the hiring agreement with you before handover.

We provide electric mopeds for delivery riders in London. The Vmoto VS2 is available from £45 per week and the Zero LS1 from £85 per week. The VS2 is listed with 50 miles of range and 32 mph top speed; the LS1 is advertised with up to 100 miles, three batteries and 55 mph. The actual subscription cost depends on the subscription duration you choose and any additions. Check the live product page to see the price for your selected options.

Vmoto VS2

Potentially the lower-cost option if your delivery area and charging routine fit its advertised 50-mile range. Food delivery is insured through our setup. We work with all insurance parties and can insure riders who have a CBT and valid licence for the selected vehicle. We will check your documents and explain the agreement before you start.

Zero LS1

The homepage advertises up to 100 miles of range, three batteries and 55 mph top speed, at a higher starting price. A higher top speed can mean a different legal category from a moped, so confirm licence entitlement and registration details before selecting it.

A practical shift calculation

Estimate the range you actually need

Write down the distance you expect to ride in a normal shift, including travel to the delivery area, repositioning between orders and the trip home. Add a buffer for traffic, detours, rider load, weather and battery performance. If you are close to a model’s advertised range, ask us about the battery options available for that moped.

Advertised range can change with rider and cargo weight, speed, hills, temperature, stop-start riding, tyre pressure and battery age. If your shift regularly approaches the advertised range, ask about battery swapping, extra batteries and safe charging before you subscribe.

Before you pay: ask how to report a breakdown mid-shift, whether a replacement vehicle is offered, what response times look like and what costs you might face while the moped is unavailable. Never assume lost earnings are reimbursed.
Insurance is not optional guesswork

Check delivery insurance for the exact platform and vehicle

Deliveroo’s rider guidance says motorised scooter riders need both Social, Domestic & Pleasure cover and Hire & Reward (or equivalent fast-food delivery / carriage-of-goods cover) for paid food deliveries. It says ordinary SD&P cover does not cover delivery work and that proof of appropriate insurance is required before riding with Deliveroo.

That is platform guidance, not confirmation of the terms of your Ride Today subscription or every other delivery app. Before working, check the policy documents and ask the insurer or subscription provider to confirm in writing that paid food delivery is covered, for the exact vehicle and rider. Also check what happens when you work for more than one platform.

Pre-shift checklist

  1. Confirm your licence and CBT status for the vehicle category.
  2. Check registration, tax and insurance documents and that details match the vehicle you are using.
  3. Confirm delivery use is covered and the platform has accepted the evidence it requires.
  4. Check tyres, brakes, lights, mirrors, battery and visible damage before riding.
  5. Plan charging, secure parking, phone power and a safe route home.
  6. Save the breakdown and support number before you start taking orders.
Delivery rider FAQs

Electric mopeds for food delivery

Is food delivery insured?

The current VS2 listing explicitly lists delivery insurance among its included features. Confirm the policy wording, eligible riders, permitted delivery use, excesses and exclusions before riding. Do not infer that every model or subscription has identical cover.

Can I ride a 55 mph electric scooter on a moped licence?

Do not assume so. UK entitlement depends on the vehicle’s legal classification and your licence. Check the registration and category with the provider and compare it with the official GOV.UK category guidance before booking.

Will the advertised range last a full shift?

That depends on your distance, conditions, speed, battery configuration and charging opportunities. Calculate your typical and longest shift, add a buffer and ask about spare batteries or swapping.

What should I do if I have a crash or the moped breaks down?

Follow the insurer and provider’s incident process, make the area safe, and contact emergency services if needed. Get the support and claims instructions before your first shift; do not assume every incident or lost-income cost is covered.
