Understanding Your Electric Moped Battery Options

Battery planning matters, especially if you work long delivery shifts or travel across London. Options depend on your vehicle and subscription, so confirm what is available before relying on a particular arrangement.

Option 1: Battery swapping

For selected vehicles, battery swapping may be available at our location. Instead of waiting for a depleted battery to recharge, you may be able to exchange it for an available charged battery, subject to the arrangements in place.

Before planning around battery swapping, check whether your vehicle supports it, where the swapping location is, when the service is available and whether any conditions or charges apply. Don’t assume it is available for every vehicle or at every location.

Option 2: Additional batteries

Depending on your vehicle and subscription, an additional battery may be available to take with you. Confirm availability and the applicable terms before collection. Follow the instructions supplied with the vehicle when removing, carrying, storing or using a battery.

How to plan your battery use

Estimate your distance

Consider your total journey, including travel between deliveries and returning home.

Allow for changing conditions

Traffic, speed, load, weather and battery condition can affect your range.

Know your options

Check your remaining charge and understand where you can recharge or use an approved battery-swapping arrangement.

Avoid unnecessary surprises

Don’t rely on the maximum advertised range as a guarantee of what you’ll achieve on every journey.

Battery safety

Lithium-ion batteries need to be handled and stored properly. Follow the instructions supplied with your vehicle and battery.

  • Use only the charging equipment specified for your battery.
  • Don’t use a battery that appears damaged or swollen.
  • Stop using a battery if you notice unusual heat, smoke, leakage or other signs of a problem.
  • Keep batteries away from excessive heat and unsuitable storage conditions.
  • Follow battery storage and overnight-removal requirements in your hire agreement.
  • Follow current government fire-safety guidance relevant to your battery and vehicle.

Emergency: If you suspect a battery is overheating or presents an immediate fire risk, keep away, evacuate the area if necessary and call 999 in an emergency. Don’t attempt to handle a dangerous battery yourself.

Which option is right for you?

The best arrangement depends on your moped, typical journey length and working pattern. Talk to Ride Today about the options available for your chosen vehicle before making a decision.
