What to Do If Your Moped Has a Fault

If your electric moped develops a fault, your safety comes first. Don’t ignore an unusual noise, warning light, tyre problem or battery issue.

Step 1: Stop somewhere safe

If you notice a problem while riding, assess whether you can safely move out of traffic. Find a safe place to stop and switch off the vehicle if appropriate. If the brakes, tyres, steering or another safety-critical component may be affected, don’t continue riding.

If the situation creates immediate danger to you or other road users, contact the appropriate emergency service.

Step 2: Identify what you’ve noticed

Once you’re somewhere safe, take note of the problem. Useful information includes:

  • What happened and when.
  • Any warning lights or messages.
  • Unusual noises, smells or changes in performance.
  • Whether the vehicle was moving or stationary.
  • Any visible damage.

If it’s safe to do so, photographs can help explain the issue. Don’t dismantle the vehicle or attempt repairs beyond your competence.

Step 3: Contact Ride Today

Contact the Ride Today team and explain what has happened. Provide enough detail for the team to understand the issue and advise you on next steps. If the problem happens during a delivery shift, prioritise getting to a safe location rather than trying to complete the delivery.

Step 4: Follow the advice you receive

The next step depends on the nature of the fault and the arrangements applicable to your subscription. The team may need to assess the issue or arrange an appropriate next step. Don’t assume every repair, replacement or callout is automatically covered. Your hire agreement explains the relevant responsibilities and charges.

If the vehicle may be unsafe, don’t resume riding until it’s appropriate to do so.

What if the battery is the problem?

If you suspect a battery fault, stop using the battery and follow the supplied safety instructions. Don’t use or charge a battery that appears damaged, swollen or abnormally hot.

If you notice smoke, fire or signs of an immediate battery emergency, keep away and call 999 if emergency assistance is needed.

What if you’ve had an accident?

If your moped has been involved in a collision, follow applicable legal requirements and the incident-reporting process in your hire agreement. Prioritise safety, exchange the required information and contact Ride Today promptly. Additional reporting and insurance procedures may apply.

Remember your servicing appointments

Servicing is included in the subscription arrangements, but you are responsible for booking and attending the required appointments. Check your hire agreement for the applicable service interval and any consequences of missing an appointment.

Can I keep riding?

If you believe the moped is unsafe, don’t continue riding it. If you’re unsure whether the vehicle is safe, stop and ask Ride Today for guidance. Don’t risk an accident to finish a journey or delivery.
